1/29/2005 10:30:00 PM|W|P|Jen Da Purse Ho|W|P|More than half done w/ the DNA scarf. In the picture below...i took a picture before i started the ribbing for the neck area. The pattern calls for the cable pattern to repeat 5 times. I only did it twice. for many good reasons. 1) My friend is short like myself. so there is no need to make such a long scarf. 2) this pattern is kind of hard. :) I'm scared i'll screw this up. So i am done w/ the neck ribbing now. i'll post pictures again when i'm closer to being finished.

I'm also moving along on my Hello Kitty sweater. I started the intarsia this week. that is kicking my butt as well. sigh.

see all my bobbins? at first i thought...nah..i don't need bobbins. i'm a MORON. hahahaa. so i broke down and got them out and used them. life is so much easier now!!! AAAAGH!!! i was talking to my friend Lilyan about it and she told me to knit the scarf w/ a lifeline. I am familiar w/ the idea...but i wasn't sure how to implement it. thanks to Lilyan, I KNOW NOW!!! so hopefully this will make my life easier. :-) i need to get cracking on this scarf. It was a 1-mile stretch of highway...i was stuck there for 45 min. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES!! it was so bad we didn't move. it was a parking lot. SO i grabbed this box i'm making out of Sugar and Spice...and just made one of the squares. It's a box you make out of 5 squares and just sew together. So I managed to finish up one square and do half of the other in the time i sat in the car.

Obviously it's going to be a small box. but it's just for my bathroom. the color matches everything else in there. :-D i should post pictures of the traffic jam. i was so bored i just started taking pictures of everything around me. So i was looking at the DNA scarf i was doing...and realized...O-M-G. I read the chart wrong!! you are supposed to read it right-to-left...the left-to-right. I AM THE STUPIDEST PERSON ALIVE! I read it right-to-left the whole time. grrr...so i ripped it out to the point of the seed stitch rows and started again. One good thing that came out of all this ripping i am doing....i am really good at rippping out and picking up again. i used to be so scared. now i'm all good. hAHAHAHA. no more ripping fears.

Can you see the cables? they are forming nicely now. before..it was just CRAP!!

So far i'm pleased w/ how it's coming out. cAn you see the ridges? i'm scared they will be very apparent as i go on...and i really don't feel like ripping it out. :(

I asked Trudie at Simpatico for help and when she told me what i did wrong...a big "OHHHHHH" came out of my mouth and everyone started to crack up at my stupidity. hahaha I'm so dumb. So that is going well. i'll post pictures later. I still have an issue of ridges on the ruffle. i might have to ask. The Berroco Softtwist I am using keeps splitting. it's a bit frustrating. I started the DNA scarf too. This is my first actual cables project. i'm excited and scared. haah. dont' ask me why i so scared. but i havent' had to rip anything out yet. tink...yes. but no ripping. hehehe. YAY! I'm hoping the cables aren't hard to see in the yarn i am using. I'm using a purple-ish silky tweed. it's cold here in DFW today and tomorrow. it's so bitter cold, i regret wearing my flip flops out. (i got a pedicure today and didnt' want to put socks on). |W|P|110594393157708816|W|P|off to a rocky start...|W|P|purse.ho@gmail.com1/16/2005 03:10:00 AM|W|P|Jen Da Purse Ho|W|P|I have finished everything i immediately wanted to do. so i felt this sense of panic. haha. what to do what to do. so i have decided on three things to start on today. #1 - DNA scarf. i have a friend who is in the PhD program for microbiology. she's going to be a scientist. hahaah. so i figured since her b-day is coming up...this would be a nice present. :) #2 - ruffles scarf from Scarf Style. #3 - the Hello Kitty knit-a-long outfit. I started the ruffles scarf as soon as I went to Simpatico and picked out my yarn and bought the book. i admit..i'm having trouble w/ the wrap and turn. well, i'm NOT...but my beginnings look really weird. so i stopped after i did about 20 rows and thought...i'll just stop now just in case i messed up royally. then i thought...i should do the DNA scarf! well, the yarn i chose (silky tweed) isn't wound up and my ball winder is no where to be seen. so i guess i should go to bed and sleep. hahahaa. i don't want to start on the HK outfit just yet. i need to make sure i have all the yarn i need before i go running around like crazy tryign to finish it. :-) so much yarn...not enough time or enough arms to do all this. :-) hahah. my bed is claling me...i must heed it's call....wonderful pillows...blankees... |W|P|110586690786580644|W|P|what to do what to do|W|P|purse.ho@gmail.com1/14/2005 03:51:00 AM|W|P|Jen Da Purse Ho|W|P|I've been knitting alot lately. hahaa. getting some little things done. I finally finished that suede scarf for my friend and sent it to him. he said he liked it...but i think he watned slippers made of suede. Who ever heard of slippers made of suede? he's so freaking weird. Well, here is a photo of the scarf. well, this is a close-up photo....

i doubled up the suede b/c single stranded it was really..hmm..i hated it. doubling it up made it feel really good.

I made a hat out of the Interweave yarn i had left over from my poncho. An old friend said she loved the color and if she knew i could knit, she would have asked me to make one for her. She is this sweet elderly lady from my old church...someone who has been there since i was a little kid. so i consider her a grandmother figure. I made a hat for her husband too. It's made of blue arcania yarn that was given to me by Mary Jane of Simpatico Yarns. anyway...here are the hats:

i did a 2x2 rib on the bottom, then at the top i made a top knot so it woudnt' be boring. i think it came out really cute. :) sorry if the mannequin head scares you. I decoupaged it and i think my choice of tissue paper was a bit strange. i just grabbed what i had. alof of people were all "EEEK. what is that!??!?!" so i think i need to redo it or something.

this week i managed to make a baby hat made of herloom and funny. iT's a bright yellow color. some friends of mine came to town to visit and the baby of one of the couple's that came is kind of bald. so i thought a nice fuzzy hat would be nice for her. :-D i did that in about one day. it was a very satifiying knit. hehehe

I also started and finished that Debbie Bliss chevron hat i wanted so badly. :-) people commented that my color choices were interesting. hahaa. I made it out of cashermerino b/c i fell in love w/ the colors that were at the store. They didn't have any colors that i liked in the yarn that was requried in the pattern. but using cashermino..i didn't have to make any adjustments to the pattern for size.

I started the hat last week. I put it on hold while my friends were in town. i got started again on monday.....and ripped it out about 3 times. once i put it down, i would pick it up and knit it all wrong. it was so frustrating. i just about gave up. then i thought "no. just do it ONE MORE TIME". i guess that time is what did it. i finished it tonight and i must say..it's cute. hahahaha. i can't wait to wear it to class tomorrow. maybe i should tackle the matching scarf. i wonder if i have enough yarn to do it with. i don't want to have to buy more. :-(

Now that i look at the photos, i think i really like my baby hat mannequins better than the one i put decoupage all over. the wire stands look really cool. i wonder if i can make those on my own. :) i can make them in adult head sizes. hahaha |W|P|110569325776073093|W|P|I'm just a knitting machine|W|P|purse.ho@gmail.com1/02/2005 07:32:00 PM|W|P|Jen Da Purse Ho|W|P|FINALLY! the holidays are over! i'm so happy! the church celebration went on and went well. One night i had to lead some "young professionals" night. it was stresful b/c i didn't want to talk about my current job situation. So I tried to make light of the situation. Yes..i got laid off a few times. I got laid off from 2 jobs in one week. That was really hard to admit...but not everyone knew my situation. so alot of gasps were heard when i said that. it was kind of funny. but i tried to make sure to give praise to my mom and dad for supporting me and stuff emotionally and everything. i gotta make them look good. :-) but i also kept saying i was looking forward to what the future holds b/c you just never know unless you have faith. I got to knit a bit while i was there. There aren't any yarn store there...so i actually hit up Joann's and got some lion brand landscape yarn and made a neck warmer thing. it's not a scarf...but a scarf that is joined at the ends and worn around the neck. it was a hit and it was a fast knit. comfy. i'll share photos later. I took alot of pictures while home, but what's weird is i'm not in any of them. sigh. but my poncho was a big hit when i wore it again a 2nd night. One of the old people at church...she is like a grandma (or a great-grandma...however you want to look at it) to me...so she loved the colors of the poncho and asked me to make her a hat since she is so cold. I happily agreed. I started it yesterday and finished it today. it's really cute. again...i'll post pics once i take some. My styrofoam head is drying b/c i decided to decoupage it last night. but i put a little top knot on the hat and it's cute. i have to make a hat for her husband too. then i'm finishing up that suede scarf for my friend. i ddin't finish it last week like i had planned. but oh well. my friend was being a bit of a butt-head while i was there...so i wasn't in a hurry. :-) i'll just mail it back to him. hehehe. Oh my brother liked the hat i had made for him. BUTTTTTT..it was TOO BIG!! AAAH!!! i was so mad when he put it on and it was too big. so i'm going to make him another one. My dad tried on the hat...it fit him PERFECT. i was shocked. my dad has a big head like me. tee-hee. but then...he made me so mad!! he wore it to paint the church! so i got to church to pick him up..i see the hat on his big head...and it's got paint splotches all over it! i just started HOWLING NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. but my mom got the paint out. water based paint. whew. but i told him "don't you ever wear this hat when doing manual labor! i made this hat w/ LOVE!!!" hahahaha. i dont' think he understood that i made it. my dad is just so weird soemtimes. he saw me knitting w/ the suede yarn...and he goes 'hey..give me that yarn so we can play a game at church with it." i was SHOCKED! i go "this yarn is EXPENSIVE, DAD!!! it's like $9 a ball!!" then he just stares at me...and goes 'so? we need to play a game w/ some yarn. you have some there. can i have it?" me: "NOO!! what's wrong with you? go buy some yarn at walmart!" hahahaah. i love my dad, but man. he drives me nuts! as sick as it sounds, i'm a bit glad to be back. i DO miss my mom's cooking though. i found myself all wondering when lunch/dinner would be ready. hee. it's not ready until I make it or buy it. sigh. i miss all that spoiling. |W|P|110471634397735343|W|P|the holidays are OVER!!!|W|P|purse.ho@gmail.com
